Old Town Pasadena has many excellent bakeries, but the imminent arrival of Miopane, a popular bakery in Taiwan, will provide an entirely new spin on bagels. The 95 North Raymond Avenue location, which is slated to open this fall, is the first U.S.-based location for the chain, which specializes in hand-crafted breads and bagels with inventive fillings. In addition to its matcha bagel, Miopane incorporates fruit, nuts, cookies, salted egg yolks, and a host of other delectable and creative ingredients to create photo-worthy treats.

Jonathan Wang Design, a prolific interior designer who has worked on a variety of other L.A.-based projects including a daycare and a fast-casual dining restaurant, is also helming the aesthetics in the new Miopane location. The open kitchen layout is purposeful, as it is the space “where the artistry of bread-making unfolds before the eyes of customers.” The use of warm woods and a long central wooden table in the center of the eatery provides a place for diners to enjoy their bagels and select beverages while also “incorporat[ing] elements of Taiwanese culture and craftsmanship into its design aesthetic.”

While the chain has so far remained relatively under the radar in terms of official U.S. media exposure, anecdotal raves on sites such as Instagram and Yelp indicate a passionate following among those who have visited its numerous locations in Taiwan.

“Been seeing everyone and their mothers post about Miopane for years and I finally got to get them during my trip to Taiwan recently,” Instagram user @breadinosaur writes before lauding Miopane’s matcha bagel with the buttery creamy center. “Wishing I could be back in Taiwan rn for their other flavours [dual sad face emoji].”

For their part, Miopane notes that “We’re excited to join the Pasadena community, baking scrumptious breads every morning.”
