This Pacific Palisades residence has been transformed into a haven of peace and Japanese minimalism. Located in The Rockwell, a 16-unit boutique building at Sunset Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway, the 1,875-square-foot residence occupies an entire floor. This unit features two bedrooms and three bathrooms and was completely reimagined by Séverine Tatangelo of Studio PCH, the architect and designer behind Nobu Malibu and Nobu Ryokan Malibu. The renovation and redesign of the residence was completed in December 2024. Since then, it has been occupied for only eight nights and remains largely untouched. The owner had a vision to create an interior inspired by Nobu, which is why he tapped Tatangelo to redesign the space. She brought in the same fabricators and millworkers who built out Nobu Malibu, using premium materials to capture the restaurant’s signature, zen-like atmosphere.
This wasn’t just a redecoration; it was a complete overhaul. The ceilings were raised, and every surface and finishing material was replaced. In fact, there were only three primary materials used to anchor the space: teak, stone, and white oak. The restrained palette was chosen to create visual cohesion throughout the entire home, giving the residence a sense of continuity from one room to the next.
Cambodian teak forms a coffered ceiling in the living room, where it sits beneath a sculptural branch chandelier. Throughout the residence, Japanese sliding doors and vertical slat screens create a subtle separation between private and public spaces while maintaining the home’s open, cohesive feel.
The kitchen island is made of travertine, echoing the natural palette, while the same stone appears on the fireplace and shelving, further reinforcing the visual cohesion. Taj Mahal quartzite countertops add another layer of natural texture. There’s not one but two Bulthaup kitchens, including a rear prep kitchen, and both feature Gaggenau and Wolf appliances.
The home is being sold fully furnished, with all of the furniture custom designed by Tatangelo. Among the pieces are the round white oak table and chairs she originally designed for Nobu Malibu. Contemporary upgrades include Lutron lighting and shades and Crestron Home automation, seamlessly integrating technology into the otherwise serene interior.
The bathrooms continue the spa-like aesthetic, with full-slab marble countertops and sinks, organic-shaped mirrors, and matte black fixtures and hardware. The primary bathroom also includes a freestanding concrete tubs and wooden privacy slats.
Floor-to-ceiling glass opens the interiors to the terrace, extending the home’s minimalist design outdoors. The approximately 500-square-foot, south-facing terrace was designed to take full advantage of the coastal views.

Teak, travertine, and Taj Mahal stone create a dialogue between durability and elegance, giving the home the timeless quality we set out to achieve,” says Tatangelo. This is a rare example of an owner’s passion for a specific location and design vision coming fully to life.
