Ktown denizens, rejoice: you don’t have to go all the way to Little Tokyo for your sushi fix anymore, as Yama Sushi has opened in Koreatown.
Yama Sushi Marketplace is an institution in the San Gabriel Valley. With over 40 years in business, Yama is more than just another neighborhood izakaya or upscale sushi joint for date night or business dinners: it’s got “marketplace” in the name and lives up to the name. You can waltz in and pick from a curated selection of Japanese snacks and imported sake and beer in addition to your bento box to go, or have a handmade roll in a cozy, casual environment. You can even take sushi-making classes at the original SGV location.
West LA saw the birth of a second Yama location, and Koreatown is now the home of Yama Sushi Marketplace’s third store which just opened in February 2025.
With mixed-use development taking hold in Koreatown at an exponential rate, Yama sits at the base of The Bora, a luxury apartment complex, on Olympic Boulevard between Serrano and Hobart Avenues. Just a hop and skip away from Western Avenue and Wilshire-Western station, Yama makes it easy to stop by without a car and offers convenience without the noise and chaos of the heart of Little Gangnam. A small amount of outdoor seating is also available for enjoying your sashimi under the sun.
Yama Koreatown doesn’t have as extensive of a menu as its OG counterpart in the SGV, but more options are expected to hit the menu as the restaurant phases out of its soft launch. The original menu boasts vegan sushi options, which is something that vegetarian Ktowners are certainly looking forward to.
Yama Sushi Marketplace is located on 3178 Olympic Boulevard and is open 11AM-8PM daily.
