Local favorite Fat Sal’s Italian deli recently opened their long-awaited Studio City location after being under construction since summer 2023. The local staple now has nine stores across LA County spanning from Westchester to Encino.
Located in Studio City’s California Pavilion, a highly-coveted piece of commercial real estate given the high traffic on Ventura Boulevard, the new store features more than just their legendary sandwiches, salads, and sides, with a large and intricate mosaic that Fat Sal’s commissioned from Joseph & Sons Mosaic Studio.
“Fat Sal’s sandwiches are so spectacular (and delicious), our team was thrilled to accept a contract to install the mosaic for their new establishment,” said Jonathan Cohen, Principal and Creative Director at Joseph & Sons, per a press release provided to LA Digs. He went on to add, “I’m excited to see the Fat Sal’s customers enjoy the space we helped create.”

The colossal mosaic utilized more than 100,000 pieces of Italian glass, each piece hand-cut in the studio, and took four months to complete. Joseph & Sons creates handmade mosaic murals in commercial and residential settings, and is a third-generation local business that has been in operation for over 60 years.
Fat Sal’s was founded in 2010 and is a marriage between East Coast transplants and California natives, combining California cuisine, the Italian delis found throughout New York and New Jersey, and burger joint fare. You can check out the newest Fat Sal’s in Studio City and its dazzling mosaic on 12265 Ventura Boulevard, open daily from 11AM to 1:30AM.
