The Original Farmers Market on Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles is popular with residents and tourists alike. Dating back to the 1930s, it was literally a farmers’ market that later took on restaurants and local independent merchants prior to becoming the casual dining destination it is today. Magee’s and Du-Par’s have been there since the late 1930s when the founders thought that farmers and customers would want a hot meal on the premises.
Even though the Original Farmers’ Market is mostly associated with local casual dining holdouts like Nonna’s Empanadas in the 2020s, there’s an eclectic mix of sit-down restaurants, niche shops, and upscale markets all under one open roof adjacent to The Grove.
In 2025, several new establishments cropped up in the Original Farmers Market with a growing franchise on the way:
Sora Temaki Bar
One of the buildings on the 3rd Street side of the market next to Du-Par’s was renovated in late 2024 to install two new restaurants, including a rooftop bar. Sora Temaki Bar is on the rooftop above Savta, another new restaurant, and offers craft cocktails, premium sake, small plates, and open-faced sushi rolls made with fresh fish flown in all the way from Japan daily.
Savta
Situated below Sora next to Du-Par’s, Savta is a sit-down restaurant blending French, Mediterranean, and California cuisine with an emphasis on unique and vegetable-rich dishes from their wood-fired grill. Offerings include grilled avocado, wood-fired octopus, wood-fired raclette pizza, and sandwiches made with Savta’s signature pizza dough.
Stara

Stara is billed as an authentic Polish sausage and pierogi vendor, but their booth also contains a wide variety of traditional Polish dishes like krokiet and placki, plus imported goods from Poland that you can take home. Even the water and lemonade are imported from the motherland! Plackis (Polish potato pancakes) were flying off the grill when I stopped by, but the pierogis are their most popular menu item for both dine-in and delivery. Stara offers classic pierogi fillings like potato and cheese, meat, and sauerkraut and mushroom, and you can even get dessert pierogis containing seasonal fruits.
Ettore

Founded by the creators of Osteria Mamma and Mendocino-based Ettore winery, Ettore Vino e Cucina is a new sit-down restaurant near the 3rd Street side of the market. The upscale Italian restaurant’s menu was created by the same team from Osteria Mamma and emphasizes their large selection of organic and terroir-driven wines and handmade pasta, such as the red wine-based taglitatelle with mushrooms, kale, pecorino, and hazelnuts. Virtually every menu item has a suggested wine pairing and there is a wide range of vegan and vegetarian options.
Gott’s Roadside (Coming Fall 2025)

A Gott’s Roadside location is coming to the former site of the Market Tavern, a British pub-style casual restaurant and bar situated between the 3rd Street parking lot and the northern entrance to the market. The casual franchise is based in the Bay Area and expanding to southern California throughout 2025 and 2026. Gott’s primarily offers burgers, salads, and tacos and they also serve beer and wine, so they’ll fit right into the casual vibe of the market.
