Argentinian gelato chain Freddo just made footfall in California with their first store in Studio City.
Classic gelato flavors include dark chocolate, dulce de leche, strawberry, and zabaglione (the Italian version of a rich egg-heavy custard). Freddo also takes a slightly more inventive twist with dulce de leche granzado that has crunchy pieces of caramel, coconut dulce de leche, the strawberry cheesecake-like mascarpone, and extreme cookies and cream that leaves Moose Tracks in the dust.
Additionally, Freddo also has a selection of Italian and South American pastries for sale if you’re in the neighborhood and need a quick breakfast. Or if you want to continue the Argentine dining experience, the perfect dessert joint after dinner at LALA’s across the street.
Originating in 1969 in Buenos Aires after multiple waves of Italian immigration to the Americas, Freddo not only brings classic Italian flavors but also a hefty dose of retro style. The minimalist signage and placement look like they are straight out of golden age Hollywood flicks, complete with the airy and spacious interior offering rainbow pillows and wall art.
There are a handful of outdoor tables with delightfully retro fringed umbrellas out front, and a large outdoor lounge and rock garden in the back perfect for both quiet dates and large parties.
Freddo is just making headway into the US market with stores in Florida, South Carolina, and Nevada, with a second LA area store planned for West Hollywood, according to Eater. The chain currently has about 150 stores throughout the Americas, including Brazil, Panama, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.
Freddo Studio City is located on 11916 Ventura Boulevard in Studio City off Carpenter Avenue, open 9AM-9PM Monday through Thursday, 9AM-11PM Friday through Sunday.
