Streamline Moderne is exemplified in the Skinner Residence in Silver Lake. A masterpiece by William Kesling, this home represents one of the most coveted architectural styles in Los Angeles. The residence is one of two structures on the lot and includes three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Priced at $12,000 per month, 1530 N Easterly Terrace is listed by Take Sunset.

You would be forgiven for assuming this modern structure was the product of the 1960s – but that is the visionary nature of Kesling’s work. German born, Kesling eventually made his way to Los Angeles where he founded Kesling Modern Structures. He became one of the fathers of the Streamline Moderne style in Southern California. The Skinner Residence and the connecting Vanderpool Residence are debatably his most famous architectural feats.

Much of the Skinner Residence remains untouched, allowing future inhabitants to step into a 1930s time capsule. With angular grid windows and parquet floors, the home is filled with original design details crafted by Kesling himself.

The living room is anchored by fully integrated built-in furniture that gives the space a visible sense of geometry. A decorative fireplace extends from the main seating area, acting as a visual anchor that blends effortlessly into the space.

Each room has its own character, yet the transitions feel natural as you move through the house. The kitchen maintains its original wood cabinetry with circular carvings, along with vintage tile countertops and an oven that reflects the retrofuturism found throughout the residence.

Anywhere a window can be installed, a window has been placed. Natural light enters from almost every direction, emphasizing the home’s sunny location and direct connection to the landscape. From the vintage green tilework in the bathroom to the built-in vanities in the dressing areas, Kesling lives on in every corner of this home.

The den shifts to more utilitarian materials with concrete floors and a black brick fireplace. A skylight brings daylight into the center of the room, and the space opens directly onto one of the home’s many patios.

The indoor and outdoor layout has been carefully considered. Each patio and outdoor nook feels private and is positioned to take in lush views of the Silver Lake hills. The home sits close to the reservoir and many of the neighborhood’s everyday landmarks, from cafés to markets and long-standing dining spots. An exceedingly rare opportunity, the Skinner Residence will be available beginning April 1 for a furnished long-term lease.
