Completed in 2022, the A+M House is a unique display of avant-garde residential design. The three-bedroom, three-bathroom residence in Santa Monica offers a striking departure from conventional architecture. Designed by Eric Owen Moss as a personal residence for his family, the property serves as a study in form, materiality, and spatial organization. The geometric property sits just one block from the beach. For lease at $24,500 per month, 211 Entrada Drive, Santa Monica is listed by Frank Langen at Compass.

Eric Owen Moss is a veteran of Los Angeles architecture, best known for his experimental projects and longstanding leadership at SCI-Arc, where he served as director for over two decades. Since founding Eric Owen Moss Architects in 1973, he has consistently explored new ideas in structure and design, often working with unconventional materials. Moss has also held academic appointments at Harvard, Yale, and Columbia, contributing to widespread conversation around contemporary architecture and where it is headed.

The A+M House reflects Moss’ notable interest in kinetic forms and creative spaces. Its design moves from a curvilinear, guitar-shaped base to a rectangular form at the rooftop, creating a continuously shifting silhouette. The structure’s CNC-milled wall system, developed from a Rhino 3D model, marks a technical innovation for residential architecture. The home also incorporates polyurea over wood, which is the first known use of this framing in residential architecture.

The ground floor includes a kitchen, dining area, and library arranged around a central atrium. This void extends upward through the house, visually connecting different levels and flooding the entire home with natural light. The first floor contains a symposium room intended for lectures and meetings, alongside a flexible sleeping area, adding public-oriented spaces to the private residence.

The second floor includes two bedrooms, each with integrated seating areas and private bathrooms. A rooftop deck completes the home, offering open-air space with unobstructed ocean views. The bridges that cross the atrium create a sense of spatial continuity between these distinct levels.

Notable features include the dynamic wall surfaces and sculptural interior elements that reinforce the building’s experimental character. The combination of CNC-milled surfaces, curvilinear volumes, and shifting geometries creates a residence that reads as both a home and a prototype for new architectural ideas.

Additional amenities include the symposium room’s integrated projection equipment, the custom tiered theater, and outdoor spaces designed for both private use and gatherings. The residence blurs distinctions between personal, social, and formal settings.

Since its completion, the A+M House has appeared in ArchDaily, Dezeen, Hypebeast, and Archinect, receiving recognition for its material experimentation and distinctive appearance. As Moss’ personal project, the residence stands as both a functional home and a glimpse into the future of residential design.
