Hidden behind a small arched doorway in Historic Filipinotown, Jōdo Saké Bar is a new addition to the ever-evolving landscape near Echo Park. The interior draws from contemporary Japanese design with subtle Scandinavian and mid-century influences.

The long, narrow space includes a wooden service bar, creating a layout that encourages movement and communal energy. Raised tatami-style platforms with low communal tables line one side of the room, while the bar seating creates an asymmetrical atmosphere. Simple materials, restrained detailing, and an understated color palette combine to create a stylish space.

Lighting shapes the experience as much as the layout. Oversized white globe pendants cast a soft glow over the tatami seating, while the sequence of warm amber paper lanterns stretches above the bar. Low ambient light and discreet wall sconces create contrast and intimacy, rather than illuminating the room completely.

Jōdo’s menu is focused on marrying traditional Japanese cuisine with modern food trends., They specialize in saké, beer, and Japanese small bites. Rare junmai and nigori expressions are served alongside dishes such as crispy karaage, miso butter corn, and grilled Kurobuta sausage.
This new addition to Echo Park is a buzzing blend of Eastern and Western culture. Because they are still in the soft opening stage, Jōdo is currently only open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 5pm-12am.
