Tokyo’s Beloved Nana’s Green Tea Is Opening in Pasadena

Nanas Green Tea Exterior

Japanese dessert cafe chain Nana’s Green Tea is set to open their first California store in Old Town Pasadena down the street from the Memorial Park Metro station on the corner of Raymond Avenue and Holly Street.

The Tokyo-based chain’s presence is dominant throughout Japan, but they also have stores in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, and Vancouver, BC. Among their 90 stores globally, Nana’s US presence began in Washington state then expanded to Hawaii, New York, and Boston with new stores arriving in Las Vegas and now Pasadena. With Old Town Pasadena’s penchant for casual dining spots and epic desserts, Nana’s Green Tea will fit right in among the other eateries lining Raymond Avenue.

While the main attraction to Nana’s Green Tea is in their name – the matcha desserts, drinks, and baked goods – the cafe chain is so popular because they also offer a wide variety of inexpensive and filling classic Japanese lunches like udon bowls, curry rice, and rice bowls in addition to their signature matcha cheesecake and ornate sky-high parfaits. Nana’s also has seasonal menus to look forward to, like their pumpkin parfaits and udon bolognese with autumn eggplant.

Don’t want to splurge on a tall parfait? You can also order perennial and seasonal soft-serve with as many or as few toppings as you like, including black sesame and matcha soft-serve with classic Japanese flavors like mochi and red bean toppings.

The opening is slated for late 2025 or early 2026.
