Frustrated with their pandemic pod’s dry, bland banana bread, Leah Smith and Estee Stanley decided to make their own far more “moist” version: and thus, their business Gone Bananas Bread was born. Initially limited to a chocolate-chip infused bread, the duo soon began baking a variety of other banana-centered confections for their friends, family, and eventually, anyone who cared to stop by their Fairfax Farmer’s Market location. Now, they’re expanding yet again: at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday April 19, Gone Bananas Bread is opening a new storefront in Brentwood at 13016 San Vicente Boulevard, very near the recent addition Sunlife Organics.

The Gone Bananas Bread Instagram account has an appealingly down-to-earth humor; in one Instagram post, Smith and Stanley describe the decision to open a business as doing “something we truly enjoyed. Something that makes people DIE when it goes into their mouth! Maybe that’s too sexual but it is #CRAZYMOIST.”

To celebrate National Banana Day (which officially occurs a few days earlier on April 16), the store will be giving away “a little treat” to anyone who stops by the new location over opening weekend. According to their Instagram feed, the person with the best “big banana” look or costume is eligible to win a banana loaf.

For those not in the immediate area, the company’s official website now offers delivery either through local LA DoorDash or nationwide via GoldBelly. The heart-shaped delicacies include blueberries, cinnamon, pecan nuts, a gluten-free/vegan version, and of course, the “OG” chocolate chip.
