Airbnb and Barbie already have a history of promotional partnerships. In 2019, Airbnb listed a life-size Barbie DreamHouse for an exclusive two-night stay. Located in Malibu (where else?), this kitschy mansion is having another Barbie-inspired revival. Not only has this pink-ified property received a vibrant new paint job, but Ken has added some of his own fabulous touches! Several drones started buzzing about this property as the renovations were being completed, and the result has finally been revealed. Take a peek into this playful property before the highly-anticipated Barbie movie premiere.
Barbie’s Malibu DreamHouse has now been dubbed, “Kendom.” Airbnb has described the interior and exterior as the exemplification of Ken’s iconic style. Ken’s laid-back surfer aesthetic permeates this property. They’ve also added callbacks to Ken’s cowboy collection and rollerblade-inspired decor. Although you can only book a one-night stay, you’d be hard-pressed to discover all of the nostalgic touches included in every corner.
The outdoor area is as spectacular as the interior. While the teal-blue pool was expected, the full-scale disco dance floor steals the show. There is also a hot pink outdoor bar, workout corner, and basketball hoop. Ken is all about looking good and enjoying life – two qualities that are evident throughout the property.
This home is plastic and fantastic. The furniture has been painted to mimic toy furniture, and every hue is delightfully artificial. Neon pink with pops of synthetic blue combine to create a human-sized play space. Lucky guests can even go through Ken’s closet and try on some of his iconic looks. Airbnb is offering an unparalleled opportunity to live your childhood fantasy.
While guests will have to find a way to get themselves to the magical Malibu coastline, they will be greeted by a concierge to ensure they have a fabulous stay. They will also assist in arranging meals so you can kick back, relax, and party like Barbie (and Ken). Although Airbnb is sponsoring the stay, the home is a private residence that is operated by the owner.
The home is located in western Malibu, between Zuma Beach and Leo Carrillo. The drive up to the property is a stunning example of the scenic Malibu shoreline. Bookings for two, one-night stays for up to two guests will open on July 17 at 10:00 a.m. PDT. All stays will be completely free – because Airbnb claims that Ken isn’t the best at math!
