As Angelinos and transit advocates enthusiastically prepare for the day that one can ride the Metro D line past its current terminus at Wilshire/Western, Metro still has not yet officially provided an opening date or month. However, at their latest project-specific meeting on the new D line stations, there were some exciting sneak peeks at the new stations underway.

LA Digs reporter Rachel Presser attended the virtual meeting on February 11, 2026 to learn more about the current state of the project.

About the D Line Extension

Wilshire Boulevard spans almost 16 miles east to west from DTLA to Santa Monica. Businesses, apartment towers, universities, cultural destinations, nightlife, dining, shopping, and more line the major arterial road in all directions, making it the ideal place for high-capacity transit alignment. At the D Line Extension’s conclusion, there will be 7 new stations and 9.07 miles of track built.

Due to the intense disruption and high density on and around Wilshire Boulevard, the project is split into three segments:

  • Section 1: 3.92 miles with Wilshire/La Brea station to come after Wilshire/Western, followed by Wilshire/Fairfax and Wilshire/La Cienega, expected opening in 2026
  • Section 2: 2.59 miles in Beverly Hills and Century City, Beverly Drive and Century City, expected completion in spring 2027
  • Section 3: 2.56 miles connecting Beverly Hills to Westwood with new stations at UCLA and Westwood/VA Hospital, expected completion in fall 2027

Initially, Section 1’s opening date was projected for December 2025 or January 2026. At the time of the meeting, Metro representatives stated that CEO Stephanie Wiggins would announce an official opening day and it may be in March or April of 2026.

The Current State of D Line Construction in and Beverly Hills and Expected Disruptions

With Section 1 being very close to opening, the meeting primarily focused on Section 2, Beverly Hills and Century City. However, Metro engineering staff stated that sidewalks, curbs, and pavement will still be worked on in La Cienega station after Section 1 opens due to restoration work taking longer than planned.

From February to April 2026,  there will be one and two lane closures along Wilshire Boulevard to support curb and gutter restoration between La Cienega Boulevard and Stanley Drive. Restoration of the Wilshire/San Vicente median is scheduled for removal on February 21, 2026, removing the lane reductions and turn restrictions currently in place.

Expect intermittent lane reductions on Wilshire Boulevard, La Cienega Boulevard, and side streets during off-peak hours to support the restoration in the coming months.

Pedestrian traffic is rerouted on Wilshire from N Crescent Drive to Beverly Drive through the remainder of February during sidewalk restoration. Street restoration and reopening of the street on N Canon Drive expected through mid-March 2026 with temporary lane closures between N Carson Road and N Willaman Drive through February 2026.

LA Digs readers should be aware of a construction benefit if you plan to visit Beverly Hills: there’s free 1-hour parking at 8447 Wilshire and 8350 Wilshire from 10AM-3PM, mention “Metro” to the buildings’ security to receive this benefit while construction is underway.

Eligible small businesses directly impacted by the construction of the new D line stations are encouraged to apply to Metro’s Business Interruption Fund (BIF) as there are grants of up to $60,000 per project year available. The grant amount is based on revenue loss during the construction period. Over $14M in BIF grants were awarded to businesses in Koreatown and Mid-Wilshire impacted by the new station construction. Metro also encourages small businesses located along the new D line stations to participate in their Eat, Shop, Play program for a free transit-oriented marketing boost.

There will also be an in-person meeting regarding the Beverly Hills stations along Section 2 on March 11, 2026 at 6PM on the 2nd floor of Beverly Hills City Hall located on 455 N Rexford Drive.
